Postdoctoral Research Fellow - Cancer, Splicing Regulation and Functional Genomics

Responsibilities

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Patrick J. Paddison in the Human Biology Division of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The Paddison Lab uses functional genomic approaches to uncover determinants of cell identity, self-renewal, and differentiation in mammalian stem and progenitor cells.  This position will have a dual focus on the basic biology and clinical translation of cancer vulnerabilities for human brain tumors involving regulation of splicing. The project will benefit from new CRISPR-Cas9 screening libraries created in the Paddison lab, access to banks of patient-derived tumor cells, a new created mouse model of splicing dysfunction, and the use of new genomic approaches for examining cancer-specific splicing defects. This position will require contributions both as an individual and as part of a larger team, as well as mentorship to junior lab members.  The Paddison lab has broad expertise in functional genomics, stem cell biology, and molecular biology, and provides a vibrant research environment for career advancement toward top-tier academic or industry positions. 

Qualifications

To be considered the successful candidate must have:

  • A PhD, MD or equivalent (or be nearing completion), ideally in the areas of biochemistry, cancer biology, cell biology, developmental biology, molecular biology or related field
  • Strong publication record
  • Expertise in cancer biology, cell biology, and/or therapeutic discovery
  • Experience with model mammalian systems (murine, stem cells, etc.) is strongly desired, but not essential
  • Experience with functional genetic techniques (shRNA or CRISPR/Cas9) is strongly desired
  • Experience with manipulating and interpreting deep-sequencing data sets
