Personal Genomics and Personalized Medicine

by Hamid Bolouri

Imperial College Press, 2010

The future of personalized medicine depends upon an understanding of the genome and its relationship to the probability of developing disease. This books explains the science, the policy, and the medicine in a way that enlightens readers seeking a better understanding of themselves. --John Halamka, CareGroup Health System, Harvard Medical School

Hamid Bolouri's book represents a landmark achievement in the coming revolution that will usher in personal genomics and the era of personalized medicine. The truth of this will be increasingly obvious as this era approaches, but it will certainly be plain to see after you read his book. --Jim Karkanias, Microsoft Health Solutions Group

Computational Modeling of Gene Regulatory Networks - a primer

by Hamid Bolouri

Imperial College Press, 2008

This book is a superb introduction to systems biology... -- Leon Glass and Hava Siegelmann, Current Opinion in Genetics & Development 2010, 20:1–6.

A must-have book for systems biology and gene regulatory networks. This book has three parts: the first is the introduction of modeling (Ch1-5); the second is about various models of regulation (Ch6-12), including implicit models, single-cell stochastic models, mass-action kinetics models, boolean models, Bayesian models, etc; the last part is about misc aspects of modeling (Ch13-22). They are well organized and coherent. The text is clear and easy to understand (I am not a native speaker), and the book is written for those who are suffering from math-phobia. The best part is, there are many links to free softwares and examples codes of models, so that you can play these models immediately. --review by Q Tu on Amazon.com

Computation in Cells and Tissues: Perspectives and Tools of Thought

Edited by: R Paton, H Bolouri, M Holcombe, J Parish, and R Tateson

Springer, 2004

This book provides a particularly rich source of insights into the future of computing, and of new notions of computation. This multi-disciplinary book brings together biologists, biochemists, bioinformaticians … who offer their insights into the paradigms emerging from modern biology. It contains 17 essays, for an audience of researchers working in biological information processing." --W. Richard Stark, Computing Reviews, February, 2005
